Retirement KITAS for Couples: Applying Together in Indonesia 2026
Retiring to Bali as a couple is one of the most common scenarios we handle at Retirement KITAS Indonesia. Both partners need separate KITAS permits — there is no joint or dependent retirement permit under current Indonesian immigration rules. Here is how the process works for couples, and how to manage it efficiently.
Each Partner Applies Separately
Indonesia does not issue a spousal or dependent KITAS under the retirement category. Each person must independently meet the eligibility requirements:
- Minimum age 55 years
- Own passport valid for 18+ months
- Individual proof of passive income (USD 1,500–3,000 per month per person, or a joint income statement clearly allocating income to each applicant)
- Individual Indonesian health insurance policy
Joint vs Individual Applications: Practical Differences
When both partners apply together through the same agent at the same time, the process is coordinated — you attend any required biometric appointments together, documents are reviewed simultaneously, and permit issue dates align. This is strongly recommended over staggered individual applications.
Shared Accommodation Document
A single lease agreement or property deed at your shared address satisfies the accommodation requirement for both applicants. Your agent will use the same document for both files, so ensure it names both partners or the primary lease holder only (depending on immigration office guidance).
Income Proof for Couples
If your retirement income is pooled (e.g., a joint pension or shared investment account), your agent will advise on the correct format for the income declaration. Indonesian immigration assesses each applicant individually, so income documentation must make clear that each person has the required minimum. A joint bank account statement works if the monthly deposits clearly meet the per-person threshold when divided by two.
Cost for Two Applicants
All fees are doubled since there are two separate applications. Using 2026 benchmarks:
- Government fees: IDR 8,000,000–10,000,000 (combined)
- Agent fees: IDR 26,000,000–36,000,000 (combined for two full-service applications)
- Two insurance policies: IDR 7,000,000–14,000,000
- Combined year-1 total: approximately IDR 47,000,000–64,000,000 (USD 3,000–4,200)
